Wolf Song

I'm sending books to a 13-year-old foster girl who asked for Golden Compass and I made a list with more suggestions for her future reading. These are some of the MANY fantasy kid books that I love:

1. MAGYK by Angie Sage (a magical series with a dragon boat, a princess and magicians)

2. ISLAND OF THE AUNTS by Eva Ibbotson (best first line ever!)

3. DRAGON RIDER by Cornelia Funke (over-looked & fantastic!)

4. ESCAPE FROM MEMORY by Margaret Peterson Haddix (a really grabbing opening and exciting adventure with great heroine).

5. POISON STUDY by Maria V. Snyder (I dare you to stop reading after the first chapter!)

6. CITY OF EMBER by Jeanne DuPrau (better than movie)

7. GRACELING by Kristin Cashore (original and fascinating)

8. CABINET OF WONDERS by Marie Rutkoski (love this! With automations and magic -- very original!)

9. LITTLE GRRL LOST by Charles Mathes (an urban Borrowers with magic)

10. OUT OF THE WILD by Sarah Beth Durst (Magic gone wild -- love this book & its sequel INTO THE WILD)
